Peonies have a short natural season — typically late April through to early July in the UK, with peak availability in May and June. Outside this window we source from international growers where the season is reversed (Chile, New Zealand) to extend availability, but supply is more limited and prices fluctuate.
A fresh peony bouquet typically lasts 5–7 days at home. They arrive in tight bud and open over 2–3 days into the full ruffled bloom. Trim the stems on arrival, change the water every other day, and keep them out of direct sunlight to get the longest vase life.
Peonies are deliberately delivered in tight bud or just starting to open. This is the right way to send them — fully open peonies bruise easily in transit and have a much shorter vase life. Within a couple of days at room temperature, the buds will open into the lush, full blooms peonies are known for.
The most common peony colours are blush pink, coral, white, deep pink, and burgundy. The specific colours available change with the season — early-season peonies tend to be lighter shades; later in the season the deeper coral and burgundy varieties come through. Our online range reflects what's freshest each week.
Peonies are available on our site for most of the year through a combination of UK-season and imported stems, but availability is genuinely seasonal — there are short periods (typically late winter) when peonies aren't possible. When they're not available, we'll suggest alternatives like garden roses or ranunculus that give a similar lush, romantic feel.
Peonies are one of the most-requested flowers for romantic occasions, birthdays, anniversaries, and "just because" gifts. They symbolise prosperity, romance and good fortune. Because they're seasonal and feel a bit special, a peony bouquet reads as more considered than a standard mixed arrangement.
